ADJUNCT FACULTY: HIRING AND TEACHING ASSIGNMENT (POLICY)
A. Adjunct Faculty Approval Process
1. Applications for adjunct Faculty status will be submitted to the respective Department Chair for
review. If approved, a recommendation will be forwarded to the Vice President for Instruction.
2. Applications should include a resume, transcripts of all college course work and any substantiate
documentation. The candidate's application must be reviewed by the Department Chair and/or
committee consisting of department faculty members.
B. Adjunct Faculty Contracts
1. Contracts for Adjunct Faculty teaching in local centers shall be kept by the Center Director. The
Center Director will manage their adjunct staff and hold them responsible for the required class
meeting, and all attendance and grade reports. Upon completion of the course, the Adjunct will
submit final grade sheets, and the Registrar will authorize payment to the instructor by the Central
Business Office. Upon submission of all appropriate Documents by the Center Director, the Registrar
will immediately issue a receipt to the Center Director.
2. Contracts for Adjunct Faculty teaching workshops or classes for the Special Projects Office will be
kept by that office. The special Projects Director will manage their adjunct staff and hold them
responsible for the required class meetings, and all attendance and grade reports. Upon completion
of all contractual requirements, the Special Projects Director then authorizes payment of the
instructor by the Business Office. The Registrar must sign off on the approval for payment when
credits are involved.
C. Adjunct Faculty Approval, Placement, and Evaluation
1. Adjunct Faculty are academically responsible to, and must be approved by the appropriate OLC
Instructional department for each course.
2. The final schedule and class assignment of Adjunct Faculty must be approved by both the respective
Center Director and the appropriate Instructional Department Chair.
3. All adjunct Faculty will be evaluated by their students during the semester they are teaching.
4. Professional evaluation of the Adjunct by the respective academic department will be conducted as
prescribed by the department policy.
5. All Adjunct Faculty will be evaluated by the respective Center Director.
D. Adjunct Faculty Class Load
1. Six credit hours, or two courses per semester, should be the maximum teaching load for an Adjunct
Faculty. Overloads must be approved by the respective Department Chair(s).
